I may need to share information with the client’s GP, other medical practitioners, or safeguarding authorities when necessary for their safety or that of another person. I would always do this with their consent, unless I feel that they or another person was at risk.

For me to discuss case notes at clinical supervision meetings and peer review meetings. It is an ethical requirement for all qualified, practicing counsellors to have supervision to ensure their work is safe and effective.

My client’s data will be kept for the duration of their therapy, and for a further period of six years from the date of their last attendance. Their file will then be disposed of safely and securely in accordance with data protection guidelines.
My clients have the right to access the information I hold about them. Access should be requested in writing. My clients have the right to data portability in that they may obtain and reuse their data for their own purposes across different service providers.
All paper records are kept securely in accordance with data protection regulations.
I will never release information to any third party (e.g. work, insurance company, or occupational health requests for information) unless my clients give their explicit consent. Any request for their information by third parties, I must have their written consent before I release any details about them.

Professional supervision where client anonymity is maintained wherever possible. - As part of ethical counselling practice, I undertake regular professional supervision.
Relevant aspects of client work may be discussed with a qualified supervisor. Information shared during supervision is treated confidentially and in accordance with professional ethical standards.
Where possible and appropriate, I will discuss any necessary disclosure with you beforehand.
