FAQs
What to expect from counselling?
Sessions are typically weekly, at the same time, last about 50 minutes, and provide a confidential space to discuss personal issues with a trained professional. The counselling sessions allow you the chance to talk about whatever you wish - from everyday events, problems and thoughts, to feelings, memories and dreams.
What is psychodynamic counselling?
Psychodynamic counselling aids clients in recognising how their past experiences and subconscious feelings affect their current behaviour and relationships. This form of counselling involves a thorough self-exploration, concentrating on uncovering and addressing unresolved issues, negative emotions, and childhood patterns to facilitate enduring change. The relationship between the client and therapist plays a crucial role in this journey.
What if I can’t attend regular face-to-face sessions?
I offer virtual sessions over Teams to clients who may not be able to attend face-to-face.
Will my counselling sessions be confidential?
I adhere to strict ethical standards. This includes a dedication to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality. I recognise and fully appreciate the importance of privacy and discretion when addressing sensitive matters. Depending on the age of the client and if safety is at risk, I will elaborate on confidentiality during your initial assessment session, and you will be provided with a written agreement summarising confidentiality.
When does counselling end?
You have the complete freedom to terminate counselling whenever you wish. Nonetheless, planning for an ending in advance provides an opportunity to reflect on your accomplishments, evaluate your internal and external supports, and ensure you depart feeling secure and optimistic about the future. I usually suggest allowing at least 4 sessions, as it is beneficial to have a planned ending which has been worked through. It is an integral part of the therapeutic process. This can be discussed during the sessions.
